Standing Committee on Biotechnology
Abstract
In response to the Department of Defense Funding Opportunity Number: HQ003423NFOEASD18, the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine (National Academies) Board on Life Sciences respectfully submits a proposal to conduct activities that seek to inform the work of the National Security Commission on Emerging Biotechnology (Commission) in four key areas: (1) enduring capability for identifying and assessing over-the-horizon biotechnology development; (2) innovative approaches to evaluating traditional and non-traditional applications of emerging biotechnologies; (3) successful methods for communicating national security needs and requirements to industry and academia; and (4) exemplars of effective and ineffective regulatory processes enabling biotechnology transfer between government and commercial entities.
