POEM Switch Demo

Abstract

The scope of this project is development of a high density silicon photonic microelectromechanical (MEMS) switch with high radix, and demonstration of its operation controlling photonic data flow between processors with integrated photonic input and output (I/O). The switch is to be designed for 1300nm wavelength operation for compatibility with the processor photonic I/O. The effort will carry out demonstration of switching of photonic data flows using packaged processor and switch chips. Tasking includes design, fabrication, and testing of the photonic switch, electronic and optical packaging of the switch and processors with photonic I/O, and demonstration and characterization of the switch using processor I/O as transceivers and data sources and sinks.
