Trigger Films in Nurse Anesthesia Difficult Airway Education and Training

Abstract

Through the use of Trigger Films (TFs), the goal of this evidence based practice (EBP) project is to address an identified educational need to improve critical incident airway education and training for students and experienced nurse anesthesia providers, and to provide this training efficiently and effectively. This project is comprised of three specific focus areas. The primary focus is to develop a difficult airway trigger film (DATF). The secondary focus is to implement the DATF in initial nurse anesthesia education to accelerate the required mastery of knowledge, technical skills, and critical thinking abilities in anesthesia students. The tertiary focus is to evaluate the future use of DATFs in the nurse anesthesia program curriculum at the Daniel K. Inouye Graduate School Of Nursing, Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences.
