U.S. Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM) mHealth Demonstration Project
Abstract
The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (JHU/APL) will use Global Health Engagement Research Program funds to perform operational research. Specifically, JHU/APL will: 1) develop and refine Suite for Automated Global Electronic bioSurveillance (SAGES) mHealth software tools, 2) potentially deploy prototype electronic disease surveillance systems in U.S. Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM) partner nations, and 3) evaluate the effects of this deployment. JHU/APL will improve upon the existing SAGES toolkit to foster prototype end-to- end electronic surveillance systems in USSOUTHCOM countries. JHU/APL will not only use this funding to perform an evaluation of the effectiveness of electronic disease surveillance systems, but also lay the groundwork to establish a self-sustaining research community of SAGES users in the USSOUTHCOM AOR.
