Iron Dome

Abstract

The Iron Dome defense system was built by Rafael Advanced Systems funded by the Israeli Ministry of Defense (IMoD). Iron Dome was declared operational and initially deployed in March 2011 and successfully intercepted a Grad rocket launched from Gaza in April 2011. In 2011, the United States of America provided $203M is procurement funds to spur the production and deployment of additional Iron Dome Batteries. In addition to the initial funding, $70M was provided in 2012 and $196M was provided in 2013.
