MARSOC Injury Prevention and Human Performance Research

Abstract

Funds are provided for FY 2014 Congressional Initiative to support "Naval Special Warfare Performance and Injury Prevention Program for SBT 22" to develop the scientific arm by which Naval Special Warfare (NSW) will develop and refine its Tactical Athlete Program by identifying modifiable risk factors for unintentional musculoskeletal injury and improving physical readiness. A human performance research model was developed to address the culturally-specific injury prevention and human performance needs of Naval Special Warfare (NSW), US Army Special Operations Command (USASOC), Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC), Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command (MARSOC), and the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). These laboratories serve to scientifically promote the understanding and application of human performance and injury prevention with implications for the Department of Defense as a whole. This proposal is being submitted as a new award through the University of Kentucky but as a continuation of research previously initiated under award ONR # N00014-14-1-0022. Based on several meetings with MARSOC Command, Medical, and Human Performance personnel, prioritized objectives, and consideration for previously accomplished research within the Special Operations Forces community, aims have been developed meet the specialized needs of SOF.
