Reallocating Rapid MCM Target Re-acquire Demonstration from Panama City to Pax River Demo Fall 2015 Continuation of ONR Grant N00014-14-1-0031
Abstract
This proposal describes changing the original demonstration goal. Instead of a small demonstration in Panama City during fall of 2014, we propose joining the exercise at PAX River in fall 2015. This proposal describes the additional work and funds required to make that change. Background The Oceanographic Systems Lab at the Woods Hole Oceanographic has been working on a Rapid Reacquire solution that uses a REMUS-100 vehicle to rapidly reacquire the target in the vehicle frame of reference and then use sensor feedback to guide the vehicle through a thorough inspection of the target from multiple angles of approach. Side scan sonar combined with CADCAC is used in the initial coarse search. When the onboard ATR has identified a likely target, the vehicle is equipped with a mission interrupt so that it may immediately discontinue the coarse search and redirect to a smaller, more focused search with high resolution sensors. In the test case, the high resolution sensor being tested is the BlueView sonar, but modularity of design would allow a variety of other sonars and cameras to be used in future iterations.
