Investigation of Statistical Inference Methodologies Through Scale Model Propagation Experiments

Abstract

A scale-model tank experiment of acoustic propagation through various waveguides is proposed for the purpose of supporting current and future ONR Code 32 sponsored research initiatives involving statistical inference of waveguide parameters. The experiment will generate data using spatially- and/or temporally-variable waveguide conditions. The measured data will then be assessed in the context of statistical inference methodologies. This research fills an important role in the underwater acoustics community by systematically investigating the interpretation of posterior probability distribution in relation to known ground-truth information.
