2015 International Society for Microbial Electrochemistry and Technology Conference
Abstract
Budget Justification Participant Support Participant costs are budgeted to cover expenses associated with registration (~$350), travel, and lodging costs of up to $850 for eight Young Researchers attending the conference to receive training through conference workshops, seminars, general and specific sessions, and networking opportunities within their field of study. While this amount will not be enough to fully cover travel costs from abroad, it should be incentive enough to attend ISMET 2015. In total, we are requesting $9,600 for the travel awards. Through this the costs covered through this award, we expect to decrease the student registration to $250 per attendee. 8 Young Researchers ($350 registration + $850 travel): $9,600. Total: $9,600 in direct costs for Participant Support. Project Summary The 5th International Microbial Fuel Cell Meeting takes the name of ISMET 2015, now under the umbrella of the International Society for Microbial Electrochemistry and Technology (ISMET). For 9 years, these meetings have united an interdisciplinary group of researchers that would not otherwise meet at other conferences to discuss recent advancements in microbial electrochemistry and technologies. ISMET 2015 will be hosted by the Swette Center for Environmental Biotechnology at Arizona State University (ASU) (visit http://ismet2015.org). Our research team has a long history of research in microbial electrochemistry and technologies, and is composed of over 15 researchers working on this topic. The objective of ISMET 2015 is to continue the interdisciplinary exchange of ideas regarding our field. The presentations will help disseminate new ideas in this fast-emerging field. In addition, it is a forum where students and post-docs can meet the leading researchers in the field and where they can present their work during podium or poster presentations. At the same time, our goal is to provide an affordable meeting experience. Most of the registration costs are used to cover meals during the Conference, thus, ensuring that attendees have plenty of time to interact and discuss research, in a more informal setting as well. In order to keep registrations cost low, we propose that ONR sponsors the travel of 8 young researchers for podium presentations. The young researchers will have the opportunity to learn from other researchers, while having the opportunity to present their own research and get feedback from established leaders in the field.
