Intensity Vector Acoustics and TREX13 Data Analysis

Abstract

The objective of this research is to fully understand and predict key properties of the signal intensity vector field, and use this information in geo-acoustic inversion and to better understand shallow water propagation and reverberation. The research also has a strong emphasis on the time varying sea surface based on directional wave measurements made by the PI. There are three objectives all relating to data analysis associated with the Targets and Reverberation Experiment (TREX13) that occurred in spring 2013: 1. Use vector properties of the underwater sound field to elucidate shallow water propagation effects most relevant to transmission loss (TL) and reverberation. 2. Quantify influence of rough sea surface, including directional effects (measured during TREX) on the above. 3. Use vector properties of the underwater sound to invert for geoacoustic properties
