THE PATUXENT PARTNERSHIP TPP0 PROJECT - A STEM WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT AND RECRUITMENT SYSTEM - NAVAL AIR WARFARE CENTER - AIRCRAFT DIVISION

Abstract

The anticipated wave of retirements within the civilian technical workforce of the Naval Air Warfare Center-Aircraft Division (NAWCAD), Patuxent River, MD, coupled with the need to strengthen the recruitment and retention process for newly graduated engineers and scientists, demonstrate the need for a program to develop and to inspire local technical talent to pursue a STEM career in civil service. This technical proposal describes a collaborative project to create a system to attract, develop, mentor and recruit students to fill projected NAWCAD job vacancies and to sustain mission objectives. The project envisioned by The Patuxent Partnership (TPP) will employ autonomous air systems, cyber security, augmented reality technology and classical sciences to accomplish these objectives. TPP is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit member organization that works with government, industry and academia on initiatives in science and technology. TPP has a longstanding relationship with NAWCAD, along with academia, centered on STEM initiatives, programs and workforce development. TPP is well equipped to develop and administer this full spectrum STEM project that establishes developmental activities and mentoring relationships among high school students, college and university students, faculty, interns, and Navy technical professionals in STEM career fields. TPP is engaged in various efforts to develop STEM programs and to support an education pipeline for students in STEM disciplines.
