Implement High School Aviation classrooms and after-school activities at multiple sites to create opportunities for students to engage in real-world STEM and 21st Century thinking skills

Abstract

The Central Kitsap School District is seeking to provide our students with a variety of rigorous and engaging STEM learning opportunities. Specifically, we are looking to offer immersive aviation courses to students from all of our district’s high schools. In order to do so, we’d like to obtain the resources needed to train our teachers, equip our classrooms, and provide cutting-edge aviation courses. In addition, we would also like to offer aviation-centric after-school and summer STEM experiences for students from across our district. The types of after-school and summer opportunities we’d like to provide would focus on the engineering, the production, and the computer programing involved with Aerial Drones, Rockets, and Remotely Controlled Airplanes. Support from the ONR STEM Grant would make it possible for us to realize these objectives. By doing so, we would strengthen the STEM pipeline in our area and open up a number of career pathways for our students.
