Rethinking the Development of Constitutive Theories with a View Towards Better Explaining the Non-Linear Response of Solids and Fluids

Abstract

Abstract Despite the intense study of the non-linear response of solids and fluids over the past decades, there are several phenomena that are inadequately described by the constitutive theories that have been so far fashioned. A very novel approach to the development of constitutive relations is advocated in this proposal that can explain several phenomena that have defied proper explanation until now.
