An L-array system for Shelf-Basin Arctic Acoustics

Abstract

Fabrication of an L-shaped array, data recording system, and battery pack is proposed for the purpose of supporting the ONR sponsored research initiatives in the Arctic Ocean. The 52-channel array will be designed and built for a one-year deployment (fall 2016 to fall 2017). This proposal specifically discusses the hardware necessary to fabricate the array. Associated research-related labor costs, and the cost of array deployment is discussed separately in an ONR Code 32 white paper [1]. The fabrication and deployment of the array and the subsequent data analysis will provide a unique opportunity for conducting acoustic research in the Arctic, supporting postdoctoral fellows and graduate students, and supporting naval needs in a rapidly changing global climate.
