Mapping Physical Characteristics of the Columbia River Mouth Using Transmittered Diving Waterbirds
Abstract
Project Summary Under a prior award (ONR-N000141310369, expired 31 December 2014), we used two species of diving waterbirds, double-crested cormorants and Brandt’s cormorants (Phalacrocorax auritus and P. penicillatus), as sampling platforms to collect a variety of data on the physical characteristics of the mouth of the Columbia River (MCR; e.g., georeferenced water temperature, conductivity, and depth). This work is intended to enhance the physical characterization at the MCR, which is a primary objective of the RIVIT II DRI, and expand on the animal-based sampling that the RIVIT II DRI has previously supported. Proposed work in 2015 would complete data processing, interpretation, and analyses. No new field work would be conducted under this proposal.
