: SWIFT observations of winds, waves, and boundary layers over the inner shelf

Abstract

A small fleet of drifters is proposed to measure winds, waves circulation, and boundary layer dynamics over the inner shelf. The autonomous deployments will require minimal ship support and will provide large spatial coverage for comparison with remote sensing products. The observations will be used to study the vertical distribution of turbulent stresses, which are forced both from the surface boundary and the bottom boundary and the 3D circulation that results from lateral variations in these stresses
