Laser propagation in heterogeneous media and applications to off-axis reconstructions

Abstract

O -axis reconstructions: project summary Guillaume Bal Lenya Ryzhik y May 14, 2015 The objective of this proposal is twofold. In a rst step, we will propose a macro- scopic radiative-transfer model for the propagation of laser light in turbulent atmo- spheres that carefully accounts for scattering o of the geodesic path. In the setting of strong laser intensities, we will model non-linear e ects along the geodesic path and analyze the e ects of such nonlinearities on scattering. In both cases, we will character- ize the noise level in o -axis measurements that are caused by the randomness in the atmosphere. The forward modeling of o -axis measurements described above comes with a num- ber of unknown physical parameters. In a second step, we will modify inverse transport theories to propose a reconstruction procedure for such parameters, in particular the laser source direction. We will use our characterization of the stochastic structure of the measurements to identify their in uence on the reconstructions.
