Probabilistic Assessment of Design Events for Complex Systems Subject to Stochastic Input

Abstract

Abstract This proposed research will investigate the fundamental basis for the probabilistic estimation of extreme events relevant to the design of complex marine systems, ships, and platforms. The objective of the project is to explore how high fidelity, computationally intensive, time-domain analysis codes can efficiently be used in early stage design. The eventual goal is to derive the foundation for a methodology that allows USN engineers and scientists to generate ensembles of rare events associated with severe stochastic environments.
