The Effects of Environmental Variability on Ocean Acoustic Propagation and Scattering

Abstract

(1) Analysis of the Target and Reverberation Experiment (TREX) and Noble Mariner (NOMR) data sets with specific intention to develop a range- dependent finite element model of propagation and reverberation to compare with measured data. (2) Development of the 3D longitudinally invariant shallow water waveguide layering and range dependent variations. Specifically, the role of environment variability including interface roughness on inversion for environmental parameters will be investigated. (3) Finite element analysis of scattering including layers, gradients and ice compared with analytic models when possible.
