Design and Metrology Support for Evaluation of High Power Fault Protection Apparatus

Abstract

The proposed work effort is to provide technical support for Navy medium voltage DC circuit protection systems as used in modern all-electric combatant ships. In particular the work concerns testing power system protection apparatus and their associated DC faults. This effort includes especially metrology support to review measurement and instrumentations systems. Attention to the quantification of apparatus performance in both fault clearing and steady-state conditions is to be considered. The effort includes evaluations of fault test-bed configurations and means to assess the relative performance of different vendor technologies. This effort does not involve physical experiments at MIT, but does include meetings at MIT and up to one meeting in Philadelphia.
