Assessing Cooperation and Conflict among Militant Organizations

Abstract

Research under this proposal will support three new initiatives to extend both the impact and the application of existing research on alliances between terrorist groups. A web portal will be developed that will allow researchers and policy makers to better access and assess data on competitive and collaborative elections between militant organizations. In addition, work will be done to extend our findings on terrorism in China, a pressing frontier in the study of terrorism that has substantial strategic implications for the United States. Finally, we will undertake to map and assess ISIL’s cooperative and competitive relationships in Iraq and Syria.
