Big Data Server for Social Media Analytics: Social-Radio and Programmable Antenna Implementation

Abstract

Equipment: Funds are requested to purchase a CLOUDOOP RAX HADOOP SOLUTION (PN: PS-CDPRAX) with 6 Data Nodes, 288 TB High Performance SATA III Enterprise Storage Space, 768 GB High Performance ECC Registered Memory, Total 120 x Intel Xeon E5 2600 v2 Cloud Ready Processor Cores @ 2.2 GHz and a 10 GigE High Performance Network Backplane with MapR Hadoop Distribution installed by PSSC Labs. The Big Data Server will also support the new “Big Data Systems” master’s degree concentration program which is designed to meet the growing need for data scientists and engineers that can architect, implement, and manage large data systems for industry and scientific discovery. Facilities and Administration (F&A, Indirect/Overhead) Costs: The total Facilities & Administrative costs for this project will be $0. ASU’s indirect costs are calculated on Modified Total Direct Costs (MTDC) using F & A rates approved by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The University’s Rate Agreement specifies 54.5% for FY15 and provisional rates beyond FY17 for costs was established on May 29, 2014. MTDC comprises salaries and wages, fringe benefits, materials and supplies, services, travel, and subawards up to $25,000. Items excluded from F & A calculation include: graduate student tuition remission, participant support, subcontracts over the first $25,000, and capital equipment.
