Directed Energy Technologies for Counter Directed Energy Applications

Abstract

Abstract - They propose to invert the propagation problem to the advantage of the defender, by employing directed energy techniques to deliberately drive these degrading instabilities as a means of neutralizing enemy laser weapons, for example by driving thermal blooming and interfering with the laser weapon s ability to compensate for atmospheric turbulence. In this way, they seek to turn the inherent difficulties of offensive laser weapon design into advantages for the defender.
