Identity Claims: Expanding the Issue Correlates of War (ICOW) Dataset
Abstract
We will use several methods to accomplish the objectives of the project. First, the PIswill develop clear coding rules to guide data collection on identity claims. As with the existingICOW data sets, we will develop indicators to capture the salience of identity claims. We willalso identify all interactions between the challenger and target states as they seek to manage orsettle the claim, ranging from militarized conflict to bilateral negotiations and third partyactivities ranging from good offices or mediation to arbitration or adjudication.
