Avalanche Photo Diodes and Read-Out Integrated Circuits for Optical Receivers

Abstract

This work responds to the need for compact yet sensitive high resolution optical detectors as they are use in various military and commercial navigation systems. The proposed work is a collaborative effort between NUWC, Div. Newport, RI and Professor Godi Fischer, Dept. of Electrical, Computer & Biomedical Engineering, University of Rhode Island. The two main objectives of this collaboration are to provide a detailed scientific analysis of prototype avalanche photo diode (APD) arrays and to develop novel read out integrated circuits (ROIC)s, which acquire and pre-process the APD array outputs for digital receiver circuits used in many military and commercial systems.
