Interacting Cavity Stability and Vehicle Control Forces

Abstract

Project Abstract Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) will be applied as a validation and testing resource for models suitable for supercavitating vehicle dynamics and control. Fundamental questions related to added mass forces during planing dynamics will be refined and addressed with water tunnel model scale testing. The software configuration intended for vehicle control will be tested within and fully coupled with the CFD model solutions. The results of testing will further be used to define the lumped models of dynamics and control as well as validate and understand the findings from CFD modeling.
