Stepped, Cambered, Planing Hulls with Hydrofoils - SCPH2 Optimizing their Reduced Powering Demand and Seakeeping Performance

Abstract

This project is a continuation of Hybrid Planing Hulls for Reduced Powering Demand and Increased Seakeeping Performance. We will continue the design/numerical/experimental studies of the hydrodynamic phenomena that affect the performance of the main components of the SCPH2, including studies of: different stern hydrofoil designs; ventilation inception and hysteresis of SP-SC hydrofoils; effect of different cambered geometries on the free surface wake at the position of the stern hydrofoils; and dynamic characteristics and equilibrium of cambered Vshaped planing surfaces.
