THIS IS A CONTINUATION OF N000141210828 Shock Wave Energy Dissipation (SWED) by Mechanochemically-active Nanoporous Materials
Abstract
A MURI team will carry out basic research that explores the feasibility of depleting the energy of a blast shock wave by using that energy to drive harmless chemical reactions. This project involves synthesis of potential shock wave energy dissipation (SWED) materials with full chemical analysis, thermodynamic and kinetic studies under static and dynamic pressure conditions, theoretical assessments of reaction mechanisms under those conditions, and mesoscale engineering using coarse grain simulation and testing of potential SWED materials in composite architectures intended to maximize the uptake of blast energy.
