Graduate Traineeship with focus on Scholte Wave Generation and Propagation from Explosive Sources

Abstract

Effort will support a Special Research Award (SRA) graduate student that will examine both the prediction of peak pressure and sound exposure levels (SEL) from small explosive charges, and the characterization of seabed properties using measured Scholte interface waves. Future work will include the exploration of Scholte wave propagation in sand and explore the relative effects of various environmental features on the SEL including poroelastic seabed models and sea surface roughness. The PI and student will also explore which of the 13 Biot parameters in the poroelastic seabed model affect the SEL through simulations computed with the OASES propagation model. Anticipated completion date is spring 2018.
