CONTROL OF SENSITIVITY OF ENERGETIC MATERIALS TO INITIATION

Abstract

This funding is to support a NICOP. ONR will support funding for University of Maryland. ONRG will support funding for Kemerovo State University. The project proposes to achieve control of sensitivity of highly energeticmaterials to detonation initiation via laser irradiation of high explosive ~ metal oxide composites.A possibility for controllable (tunable) sensitivity has been predicted theoretically but was neverdemonstrated experimentally. The project addresses ONR priorities in advancing insensitivemunitions and gaining fundamental understanding of detonation initiation phenomena.
