This grant is a continuation of N000141410661 Acoustic Resonance techniques for online certification and offline qualification of metal based additive manufacturing technologies
Abstract
This program has two objectives: (1) to develop non-contact electromagnetic acoustic transducers as in-situ analytical tools for evaluating the microstructural, physical, and mechanical integrity of a component produced by additive manufacturing and enable the real-time modification of processing parameters to achieve the desired uniformity of those characteristics and (2) to determine the effect of feature size on the resultant microstructure and mechanical properties of an AM build to determine the minimum build dimension required to sustain the bulk properties and performance, processing modifications to reduce that dimension, and additional size effects on build properties.
