Multi-Look SAS Analysis for Separation of Coherent and non-Coherent Scattering Mechanisms

Abstract

This research grant supports the study of multi-look coherence of complex broadband synthetic sonar (SAS) imagery. The objective is to advance techniques for addressing different scattering mechanisms within data to better detect and separate objects from their background. The work to be performed under this project includes: 1) developing processing capability for sub-banding complex images and estimating coherence in frequency and angle, 2) a comparison of coherence from experiment and models, including point-scattering models and TIER, by identifying appropriate broadband SAS data, 3) evaluating coherence for real data sets for exploitation and, 4) determining optimal ranges in angle/frequency for separating scattering components.
