Geoacoustic Measurement with Vector Sensor

Abstract

The performer will develop techniques for geoacoustic inversion using remote sensing data consisting of acoustic data measured on an acoustic vector sensor in the frequency range 100-1000 Hz. The inversion technique proposed will be based on the quantity known as circularity which is a normalized version of the curl of active intensity and can be shown to be directly related to the geoacoustic properties of the seabed. During year one of the project, the focus will be on planning, and carrying out an experiment off the New Jersey shelf in collaborationwith ARL-UT and other institutions. The second year will be dedicated towards data analysis and publication of results from this experiment.
