3rd Edition of the Workshop Nonlinear Processes in Oceanic and Atmospheric Flows 2016
Abstract
Statement of Work:The PI will host a workshop on Nonlinear Processes in Oceanic and Atmospheric Flows, in Madrid, Spain, during July 6-8, 2016.Objective:The intend of this workshop is to bring together mathematicians, physicists, oceanographers and atmospheric scientists to discuss recent advances in nonlinear dynamics as it applied to ocean and atmospheric processes. One the main foci of the event is to explore the role of real data in improving the state of predictive numerical models incurrent use.Approach:The workshop will have a dozen invited speakers from all across the world. In addition a poster session allows all participants, including graduate students and postdoctoral fellows to display their work, interact with each other, and find common areas for joint research in the future. A significant portion of the funds will be used to accommodate travel for young investigators.Overall Merit and ONR Mission/Relevance:The material discussed in this workshop has direct relevance the development of state-of-the-art computational tools being developed in Code 31 and Code 32. The participants in this workshop are some of the most productive and world-renowned investigators in the field of applied mathematics, oceanography and atmospheric sciences.
