Advancing Transition Experiments in High Enthalpy Flows

Abstract

Predicting boundary layer transition in hypervelocity conditions is critical to vehicleperformance and survival under thermal and aerodynamic loads, yet the experimental challengesof both achieving and making measurements in hypervelocity flows are such that data areextremely scarce. We propose to build on our expertise in hypervelocity testing in two facilitieswith the goals of i) investigating low-noise modifications to our existing high enthalpy facilities,ii) extending newly-developed measurement capabilities that directly quantify the disturbanceenvironment.
