3rd International Congress on 3D Materials Science (3DMS 2016)

Abstract

Funds are provided to support the 3rd International Congress on 3D Materials Science (3DMS 2016), July 10 ~ July 13, 2016, at the Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles, Illinois. The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society, Inc. plans to hold the specialty meeting at the Pheasant Run Resort in St. Charles, Illinois (a western suburb of Chicago) from July 10-13, 2016. The organizers of this meeting are: Mike Groeber, Air Force Research Laboratory, USA; Dorte Juul Jensen, Danish Technological University/Rise National Laboratory, Denmark; Emmanuelle Marquis, University of Michigan, USA; Paul Midgley, Cambridge University, United Kingdom; Matt Miller, Cornell University, USA; Henry Proudhon, Centre des Materiaux, Mines ParisTech, France; and Hiroyuki Toda, Kyushu University, Japan. They have planned the meeting around six main topical areas:1) Experimental techniques for 3D data acquisition;2) Image processing and digital representation of 2D and 3D Microstructural Data;3) Process-microstructure-property relationships in 3D;4) Advances in reconstruction algorithms;5) Advances in 3D materials modeling; and6) Future directions and challenges for 3D materials science. The congress program has been designed to maximize interaction among modelers, experimentalists, and computational and image processing scientists. The technical program will include plenary, keynote and invited lectures and contributed presentations. Morning sessions will run in parallel, with two sessions on similar topics following a joint (single) session of invited speakers. Evening sessions will be single-session. This format provides the optimum balance of breadth of information with depth of discussion and interaction opportunities. The final session of the congress will conclude with a panel discussion in which world leaders in Three-Dimensional Materials Science will participate in discussions and brainstorming with the attendees to help roadmap the future directions of the field. The organizers have also assembled an International Advisory Committee (IAC) that includes notable scientists from several different countries who will serve as liaisons to help promote the congress and unite professionals globally at this meeting.
