Analysis of Spatiotemporal Clutter Statistics and Support for the Five Octave Research Array

Abstract

The work given in this proposal has two main objectives. For the first task, the proposed PI will perform analysis and modeling to investigate the spatiotemporal statistics of acoustic backscatter caused by water-column biologics. This effort seeks to characterize returns from aggregations of fish and other biologics which cause clutter or obscure targets for traditional and synthetic aperture sonar systems. The second task is support of the ONR Five Octave Research Array (FORA), which is maintained and operated by the Applied Research Laboratory at The Pennsylvania State University (ARL-PSU).
