Rational design of polymer dielectrics via synergistic computations, synthesis and characterization .

Abstract

Short Work Statement: This is a collaborative effort between three University of Connecticut professors with complementary expertise in computation (Ramprasad), polymer synthesis (Sotzing), and electrical characterization (Cao) to: (1) discover and develop new dielectric materials and; (2) to study dielectric breakdown. Computation will be at the DFT level with some high throughput processes involved/developed where appropriate. The new material computational search and synthesis will focus on polymers with polar groups and increasing the dielectric constant of polymer through incorporation of metals and metal oxides. Breakdown studies will involve the development of measurement capabilities to track leakage current through breakdown and also follow charge injection and space charge accumulation.
