An autonomous system for the long-term mapping of sea ice morphology

Abstract

Funds are being provided under the DURIP program for the acquisition of equipment for naval research. It will be used for the construction of three high~resolution multibeam systems for mapping the underside of sea ice over long time periods. This instrumentation will observe the shape and orientation of the bottom of the sea ice cover over an entire annual cycle, which has not been done before.
