Polar Grip 2: Tactical Dry Glove for Polar Environments

Abstract

JHU/APL~s Polar Grip is a tactical dry glove designed to keep hands warm and dry during cold-water dives. The present work will further develop the integrated layers to improve warmth without adding bulk and the focus on glove fabrication. We will characterize the mechanical, water scavenging, and thermal properties of the integrated Polar Grip prototypes. These measurements will then be repeated after cyclic loading to assess durability. Phase II will conclude with manikin testing, taking the technology to a technology readiness level (TRL) of 4.
