THIS GRANT IS A CONTINUATION OF N00014-14-1-0344 Training the Mind and Brain: Investigating Individual Differences in the Ability to Learn and Benefit Cognitively from Language Training

Abstract

This proposal is centered on the Conditional Signal Routing (CSR) Theory, which postulates that covariance in individual differences in language and general cognitive abilities results from a shared neural signal routing mechanism in the basal ganglia. The experiments proposed herein will test practical implications of this theory as they relate to second language acquisition in adulthood. In addition, results from these experiments will be used to facilitate the instantiation of this theory into a neurocomputational model.
