DURIP: Acquisition of a Multifunctional in situ TEM Holder for Nanomaterials Research and Education
Abstract
SHORT WORK STATEMENT: Multilayered nanomaterials, in which alternating layers have the same composition but different grain size, will be obtained from INGEGRAN, Inc. The microstructure will be investigated as a function of processing parameters via SEM, TEM, and HRTEM to determine such things as grain size, twinning, and presence of special low sigma boundaries. The deformation behavior will be explored by direct observation using nanoindetation both ex situ and in situ within the TEM. MATERIALS:A total of $270,508.00 is requested to acquire a multifunctional in situ TEM holder system for conducting heating and tensile testing of nanomaterials, especially ceramic and metallic nanocomposites. The in situ TEM holder system consists of a heating stage and a tensile testing stage. The total cost of the system is $270,508 (Note: that the price is with a negotiated special university discount of 23%).
