Quasi-Far-Field System Upgrade for Millimeter Wave (mmw) Frequency Expansion

Abstract

Objective:The instruments requested through this proposal willexpand the existing (800MHz to 18GHz) antenna impedance and radiation pattern measurement capability from 800MHz to 26GHz and V- and W-band frequencies.Approach:The proposed Quasi-Far-Field Antenna Measurement System is an upgrade to the existing Spherical Near-Field (SNF) measurement system. The vendor MVGORBIT/FR is the same vendor who originally installed the existing measurement facility in June2008. Because of this, they can take care of the measurement facility~s previous characteristics correctly and while proposing and performing the installation work.ONR Mission / Relevance:The instrumentation purchased will directly support the project ~Development of W-Band Millimeter-Wave Links for Nanosat Applications~, in collaboration with SPAWAR (Dr. S. Chieh),for the ONR. This research examines options for W-band communications with naval forces and the instrumentation is required to experimentally verify the design.Short Work Statement:The DURIP proposal covers the following:1. MVG-ORBIT/FR shall design and install a mmWave upgrade that includes V- and W- band capability to the existing SDSU Antenna Measurement System.2. MVG-ORBIT/FR shall provide all supervision, labor, tools, equipment and incidentals necessary for a complete and professional onsite installation of the proposed system upgrades.3. MVG-ORBIT/FR shall provide three (3) days of training after the completion of System Acceptance.Funding: FY16 - $469,555
