CFDShip-Iowa Code Development, FSI and V&V for Semi- and Deep-V Planing Hulls

Abstract

CFDShip-Iowa Code Development, FSI and V&V for Semi- and Deep-V Planing Hulls. The objectives of the proposed research are to: extend CFDShip-Iowa V5.5 for two-phase volume of fluid, mixture models/cavitation, static/dynamic overset grids and full functionality; CFD V&V studies for GPPH regular/irregular wave slamming for identification/physics of extreme/rare events and scale effects using a free-to-surge/self-propelled model in collaboration USNA; CFD V&V studies for Athena and GPPH in calm water and regular and irregular waves in collaboration NSWCCD; and CFD and computational structural dynamics (finite element) V&V studies with extensions for FSI for Athena and GPPH for secondary loads tests (pressure gages and slam panels) including statistical analysis in both calm water and waves. The differences between planing (GPPH) and semi-planing (Athena) results will be investigated. Detailed analyses of the loads will be performed.
