2016 Aqueous Corrosion Gordon Research Seminar

Abstract

The 2016 Aqueous Corrosion Gordon Research Seminar (GRS) will be comprised of 50-60 graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and young researchers. The program will consist of thirteen speakers chosen from the attendees, one invited speaker (Dr. Hugh Isaacs of Brookhaven National Laboratory) and 7 discussion leaders. The Conference will be held at Colby Sawyer College in New London, NH from July 9th to 10th, 2016. The GRS site is an ideal setting for informal interactions among attendees and has been the traditional venue for the aqueous corrosion GRC conferences. All other attendees will be allotted a poster presentation in one of the two scheduled poster sessions. The speakers will be chosen to represent excellence in cutting edge research and create a balance between backgrounds, international presence, and diversity. Two of the GRS speakers will be chosen, by their peers, to present their work during the main body of the attached Gordon Research Conference. The research discussed at the conference has direct relevance to U.S.A. Naval mission. Many talks will focus on understanding fundamental corrosion processes of materials interacting with their external environment including: light-weight materials, novel materials, nuclear waste forms, nuclear systems, corrosion resistant alloys, stainless steels, and smart coatings. The topics will be discussed both from an experimental and a theoretical point of view: there will be a sessiondedicated to novel techniques to the study of corrosion as well as several presentations on multiscale modeling which is at the core of predictive design of systems.
