Inspiring the Next Generation Naval Scientists and Engineers in NROTC Battalions Through UG Navy-Relevent Geospatial Experiences
Abstract
ITPR#13515A multi-disciplinary project team of researchers and educators at UA will collaborate with the UA NROTC Unit, the UA Student Veterans Association, and the Raytheon Company to create and evaluate a sustainable, replicable, and innovative Navy-centric geospatial STEM learning experience for students. Geospatial technology will be paired with mentoring toinspire and engage students early in their college tenure. A sequence of two, new college courses(one credit unit each) will be incorporated into the UA~s NROTC Military Science Minor, and offered through the UA~s School of Natural Resources and the Environment. Participating students will be provided with opportunities to gain STEM-relevant knowledge and skills, meetexperts in STEM fields, and explore career applications. Course requirements will include a ~challenge~ project that applies geospatial technology to a Navy-relevant issue.
