A Partnership Between Maritime High School Students and Naval Reservists Designed Around Digital Fabrication

Abstract

In partnership with PHASTAR Corporation, Teaching Institute for Excellence in STEM (TIES) is poised to lead an innovative effort that will connect students at Cleveland, Ohio~s, new Davis Aerospace and Maritime High School with the Naval and Marine Reservists at the Navy Operational Support Center in Akron, Ohio by bringing a digital fabrication lab (Fab Lab) to the Davis Aerospace and Maritime High School (Davis A&M HighSchool.) The Fab Lab, consisting of a suite of fabrication and rapid prototyping machines, will both equip students to compete for jobs at the technician and engineer levels of competency, and will offer on-the-job training opportunities to the Naval Reservists, meeting a crucial workforce need in their civilian and active-duty lives.
