Cyber Security Workforce Development and Cyber Security Coordination Center (CSCC) Sustainment
Abstract
Based on the rapid expansion of cyberspace operations and the importance of cyber security to both the DoD and industry, UHWO developed the Bachelor of Applied Science degree with a concentration in Information Security and Assurance (BAS-ISA). This degree program is the first of its kind at a public institution in Hawai~i and the Pacific, developed in response to national and state need for graduates with education in information security. The concentration was developed in cooperation with University of Hawai~i Community Colleges, state and federal law enforcement agencies, state security officials, and local businesses, and covers a wide variety of technical and managerial aspects within the field. The University of Hawai~i -West O~ahu was designated as a National Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education (CAE-CDE) through academic year 2021 by the National Security Agency (NSA) and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). Meeting this objective of certification directly supports the mission and vision of the program: ~Prepare all students ~ including Native Hawaiian, local, and regional students ~ for employment in the information technology and security career fields upon graduation (Mission).~ ~Operate and sustain the UHWO Cyber Security Coordination Center as a Center of Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense Education (CAE-CDE). This student led center will continue to provide students with a unique opportunity to research cyber security issues and gain experience to be engaged global citizens and leaders in our society (Vision).~
