LES of suboff-body propeller interactions at high Reynolds numbers

Abstract

Funds are provided to perform the following tasks:(1) Validation of the proposed two-step computational strategy using the wall-resolved LES at Reynolds number based on the hull length, ReL = 1.2M, which was conducted in the full domain for bothvtowed and self-propelled congurations.(2) Wall-modeled LES (WMLES) at ReL = 12M and 40M, in towed configurations. Generation of the inflow data for the LES at a reduced domain and comparison of the data in the wake with the experiments by Smits and co-workers.(3) Self-propelled DARPA Suboff at ReL = 12M and 40M, in a reduced domain utilizing the inflow data from task 2.
