RF Modeling and Measurements for the CASPER Project

Abstract

This proposal addresses tasks to be performed by The Ohio State University (OSU) in collaboration with Dr.Qing Wang of the Naval Postgraduate School who is leading the MURI project, ~Coupled Air Sea Processesand EM ducting Research (CASPER)~. Other team members include Oregon State University, the University ofNotre Dame, the University of California, UC Irvine, and the University of Minnesota. The objective of thisproject is to fully characterize the MABL as an electromagnetic (EM) propagation environment. The researchinvolves theoretical and numerical modeling of the atmosphere, air/sea interface, and the EM propagationmechanisms, supported by extensive experimental campaigns designed to capture evaporative ducting effects. The models developed by the CASPER team, and validated with the proposed measurements and simulations, will impact future wireless communications system design and advance the science of meteorology andatmospheric propagation.
